If you want to make money you have to pay your dues

I received a comment the other day on one of my hubs from a newbie who was frustrated with her efforts of trying to learn how to make money hubbing. I clicked on her profile and saw she had just 12 hubs to her credit. My immediate. response to her was to just keep writing.

You have to pay your dues to the Internet

If you are an online money making newbie then one of the first lessons you are going to learn is that you are going to have to pay your dues to the Internet. If you think you can just write one or two articles and expect the world to come knocking at your door, you are sadly mistaken. There is nothing more frustrating that writing just to generate an income. If you are going to write, then write because it what you like to do. Sure there are ways to increase your visibility. Search engine optimization is one of the ways. But concentrating on SEO when you have a minimal amount of content on the net is really just a waste of time if your soul motivation is to make money. This is a numbers game, and if your numbers are low, so will be your income.

Concentrate of building your content library

My advice to newbies trying to make a living with hubs is to concentrate on generating a large amount of content over the next year and set your goal of 3 hubs a day if possible. This will take you 2 to 3 hours a day. So you don't need to quit your day job. In a year, it is reasonable to reach 500 hubs. There is no doubt that if you are serious about making money with hubs that you will have during the course of your research learned a bit about SEO during this time.

Do your research

Concentrate on building your arsenal of content, then worry about how you can lift each up to rank higher in the search engines. Learn how to check your rankings. Explore sites like Google Webmaster Tools, Adsense Blogs, and Google Analytics. Read what the experts are doing. Don't just sit on your butt trying to make things happen with a few hub articles. It's just not going to happen that way. If you don't like to write, or feel it is a drudgery then you need to consider another way to make a living. It takes longevity, stamina, and commitment to before you can realize significant income from your online money making efforts.

Making money online takes commitment and perseverance.

In addition to commitment, a newbie is going to have to develop a structured use of time management. Hit and miss article generation is not going to cut it. You must organize your time in such a way as to cover those must does that you need to get done during the available time you have to commit to your business in online money making. Set aside time to write, time to promote, time to network, and time for research. Do it with structure so that way it becomes second nature to you. It is easy to get caught up in information overload, so restricting your actions to cover the critical exercises that need to get done is a must.

I often hear about how other writers advise choosing a niche and build your website around some particular topic. But writing about the mating rituals of the Desert Horned Toad may bring a few people to your hub, but personally, I could care less, and if I could care less, then it goes without saying that they could care less if the horny little devil prefers top or bottom.

Write what you want to write about, not what you think we want to read

For the newbie, write what you want to write about and forget what you think others may want to read. Just write, but write well, and write to be easily readable. Learn to use that spell check tool. Readers like me will jump your case in a heartbeat if we see poorly created content, misspellings, and improper use of certain words. Words like To, Too, and Two...grrrrrrr.......... I'll be in your case like a tiger on that one...lol

Write for long lasting effect

Learn how to title your hubs so that way they will attract more readers. If your title is dull and boring, chances are your hub is too. Write about things that people may want to read a year from now. Writing about current events that people are interested in today won't make you a nickle next year unless they are seeking some historical research. Who is going to care about some obscure news event next year? It may be interesting to day, and you may see and increase of traffic to your hub temporarily, but developing traffic that will sustain itself over time is the key to generating an online income with your hubs and blogs over the years to come.

Think not about today, but about 3 years from now. Set long term goals, that are optimized to increase your income down the road. Set short term goals that serve to keep you on path to your long term goals.

Diversify your efforts. Be Prepared for Disaster

Do not make the mistake of keeping all your eggs in one basket. Remember that neither you nor I have have a crystal ball. HubPages could close it's doors tomorrow and leave you scratching your head wondering what you are going to do next. Google could send out another algorithm that could send your hard work down to the dungeon. Keep copies of all your work and guard it with your life. Be prepared for disaster in the event one of your primary income streams takes a nose dive.

The Law of Internet Gravity

What goes up must come down! It would be a big mistake to think that a particular hub or article is going to remain a favorite over time. If your hub, article, site, or page is at the top of the search rankings today, it does not mean it will stay there forever. There are just too many people developing content that will push you down. If you want to make money with hubs, then you have got to maintain your hub positions by the addition of quality content on a regular basis. Writing additional content, hubs, what have you will bring attention to your other works. Having a bunch of hubs increases your ability of generating page views, that inturn will increase your potential for making money with hubs as a newbie.

Monetize your hubs

There are things you can do within your time organization structure. One of these things you can do is to begin monetizing your hubs or website. But monetizing your hub prematurely is pretty much a wasted effort. On the other-hand, if you do not monetize, you won't make much money either. For the newbie money maker, My best advice is to read up on what works and what does'nt. Learn from the experts about things such as ad placement, color, type, and site structure. Reinventing the wheel is not going to make you a lot of money if you have'nt a clue what you are doing in the first place. I am not saying to ignore monetizing your site, what I am saying is that it is one aspect of your day that you should devote a portion of. However, it is a task that can be done over time as you develop your content inventory.

Well kids, that is about all I have to offer with this hub. I have run into writers block for the monent and can't think of much useful information to put into the hub for my own money making with hubs effort. I would tend to agree with you, and modify my own estimate to two pages if your quality is high.

Two or three hubs a day -taking a few hours..wow..I can't imagine doing that..it takes me a few hours at least for hubs that I write particularly about a topic that I am researching..sometimes longer.

How can they be quality hubs if they aren't well researched or at least a topic that you know about?

Will a writer get return traffic if they just belt out anything just for the sake of increasing the number of hubs?

I read a lot of advice on hubpages about increasing traffic and so far I'm going with quality, backlinks from relevant sites and consistency.. I may be wrong but I don't think there is any quick way unless you land on something that is trending.
