The Death of Quality Hub Content

I am horrified

After thirty minutes of hub jumping to see how I can improve my writing and the content I present to the hub community, I am horrified to the extent that I truly think my eyes are bleeding from the absolute miscarriage of the English language. I must say that after these agonizing moments of reading through several hubs, that I am convinced that the quality of writing on a large percentage of hubs is at the level of what would be possible if you threw a bunch of baboons together and said write!

How many times do I have to read the incorrect utilization ot the words, TO, TOO, and TWO? Do I really want to subject myself to the writings of people who do not have a clue about how to use the words Advice, and Advise. And where in the hell did the word ESSENTUALITIES come from? Has anyone heard that using the letter "S" at the end of a most words serves to pluralize that word?

Here are some clues people!

The word TOO can be interchanged with the word ALSO. You go TO a sporting event!

People go to sporting events TOO!

"I" before "E" except after "C"

Pay Attention!

If you want to get people to follow you, and you are seeking to generate an income with your pathetic examples of piss poor writing, then consider using a damn Dictionary!

If you are using the same word over and over again until readers like me feel like vomiting from shear frustration, consider using a freaking Thesaurus. What is a Thesaurus? I give the hell up!

At the very least, use your spell check function.

How can you possibly sound like you are worth listening TO, if you can't even determine where and when to use a comma? If you do not know how to spell, how long will it take people like myself to click to something worth reading, which from my little 30 minute scan of the current writings on HubPages seems to be an exercise in futility.

Do the editors HubPages really think that flooding their site hub after hub of mindless regurgitation of grammatical afterbirth is going to help make this site a must visit in the realm of the Internet? Do they really think they are doing the Internet community a service with 400 word run-on sentences that have absolutely no coherent reasoning? I submit that HubPages is a flash in the pan if the quality of content is not scrutinized at a higher level.

It makes me want to slap some of these so-called authors who produce this mindless mountain of garbage, who end up with a 90+ as a hub score, when the grammatical content of some of these hubs, let alone the thesis of these hubs, is less than or equal to a lump of camel crap.

Consider this rant of mine a literary call to action. When you think about it, poorly written hubs take up a hell of alot of space, and make it difficult for those of us who actually care about good writing to get our own hubs seen by a finite number of visitors. When you see an example of trash, VOTE IT DOWN. Don't think you are doing the clueless a favor by giving them anymore credit than they deserve. Allow them the learning curve of attrition. Force them to learn how to write with flair, and decent grammatical structure. If they refuse, let them eat cake!

Great hub and some very good points made. It bothers me as well, and I'm sure I'm guilty of having some mistakes too. As a matter of fact, am going back through to check. Thanks! Voted up

The key point here is that many of us have gone that extra mile to learn how to write properly. I am not advocating elminating newbie writers, I am however, pointing out that proper grammar, correct spelling, and a consistent flow of topic structure are keys to gaining readership and therefore, an increase in potential income.

I too am completely baffled by the inconsistentcy of the HubPage algorithm that allows for piss poor spelling, and grammatically incorrect hubs to rank higher than those that do. On the contrary, after seeing how poorly these hubs are constructed, I am even more convinced that writting well, if anything will help others to gain a clearer picture of how to present their own ideas.

If these grammatically flawed hubs are a cross section of the typical english language skills our country has to offer, then I am saddend to say the least.

P.S. The correct spelling is GRAMMAR...lol

Neil, I have a few comments about your topic.

First, there is a reason that I and a lot of Hubbers like to remind newbie Hubwriters that there is a Spell Check button, so you are not alone in that complaint.

Second, there is no "Grammer Check" button and there are alot of Hubs where spelling is the least of their problems. In fact, the other day I was reading a hub by one of the Grand Old Hubbers, in which she was giving advice on how to write more popular hubs - and I could barely read it. Her grammer was atrocious, but I was able to treat her hub as a Soduku puzzle and I was able to glean some truly useful information from her writing. But, it is sad that this over-1,000-hubs-written hubwriter still writes like your average fifth grade student. ---- In case you hadn't noticed, the grammer and composition capabilities of a lot of journalists, commentators, webwriters, bloggers and politicians aren't much better than your average American fifth grade student, either! ----

Finally, if you focus too much upon the spelling, grammer and compositional failures of some of your fellow hubbers, you will not stay energized to write your own - presumably well-written - hubs.

P.S. It is sometimes a weighty burden to have done well in high school and college English!

I totally agree, I teach English but i sometimes make mistakes too so to avoid this I write everything down in Word first, then I proof read and check my spelling (of course) and finally publish (copy and paste). Easy and allows you to correct yourself.
